Grohl recalls his life thus far with heartfelt humour and gratitude. From a classic Americana suburban upbringing to a young punk living out of a dirty van being in the right place at the right time to play alongside Iggy Pop, to finding mainstream success with Nirvana and creative fulfilment with Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures, as well as recounting his personal growth as a man and a father.
This is a tale of enthusiastic collaboration and friends in high places (many a kind anecdote of Paul McCartney pops up). The best music memoir I’ve read since Scar Tissue; and this is coming from someone who is not even particularly a fan of either artists music, it’s just that good to read, you can’t help but be swept up in the excitement; a joyful ride to be taken along on.
